JIHAD I. SHOSHARA
Dr. Jihad Shoshara
is the president and CEO of Pediatric Health Associates. Born and raised in Chicago, Dr. Shoshara received both his undergraduate degree (with honors) and his MD from the University of Chicago. Dr. Shoshara completed his residency training in pediatrics at Children's Memorial (now Lurie Children's) Hospital. During his training, he was twice named teaching resident of the year and was awarded membership into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. After completing his training, he joined Pediatric Health Associates in 1999.
Dr. Shoshara speaks Spanish and Arabic and enjoys the opportunity to use his language skills while caring for his patients. A former collegiate football player, he maintains special interest in sports medicine and the treatment of concussion, as well as in travel and international medicine.
Dr. Shoshara believes that the health of his patients is best served not just through high quality medical care, but also through advocacy for children's health at all levels of society. He is a member of the Syrian American Medical Society and has led multiple missions to the Middle East to treat refugees of the Syrian Civil War.
As an active member of the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Shoshara has served on multiple committees with a focus on improving access to care for all children.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Shoshara and his wife, Dr. Sofia Shakir organize the Chicago Muslim Turkey Drive, which since 2001 has provided thousands of free Thanksgiving turkeys to families in need at Chicago Public Schools. He is also a member of the board of the DuPage Children’s Museum in Naperville and serves on the board of trustees of Doane University in Crete, Nebraska (where his grandfather attended college).
He and his wife live in the western suburbs, where in his free time he enjoys reading, drinking coffee, working out, and watching any iteration of Marvel Comics.
